• How far is it?
  Calculates the distance between two places; covers the world.
• MapQuest choose "Driving Directions"
  Enter two locations within the US for map and fairly detailed directions city to city. Some door-to-door directions for selected metro areas in the US.

  US travel only. Enter address, city, state, and zip code to get back a map, distance, and driving directions.

• Geographic Names Information System (GNIS)
  United States, the GNIS is official repository of domestic geographic names information. Covers physical and cultural geographic features, giving location by State, county, and geographic coordinates. Link here for place names or geographic features in the US and its Territories.
• Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names
  From the Getty Information Institute. The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN) is a structured vocabulary developed primarily for the field of art history. The thesaurus is composed of names and other information contributed by several Getty projects, including the Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA).
